Laserquest sucks
I can never know if it's just me, since a lot of the time it is, but would I be wrong in holding that place up to the standards of any gun game?

Let's say I created an FPS where the crosshairs may or may not be right, the shot you see on the screen may or may not have little to do with the actual shot detection, your gun may or may not be any good outside of melee range, and the enemies can choose to become invincible if they see you.  I don't think anyone could or would want to play that game at all, let alone from a competitive point of view, but that was my exact experience with this game and I only approach that sort of thing from a competitive point of view.  I do so especially when there's an overall placement at the end.

Basically, I spent way too much time spamming hits and not getting reports for it.  I'd place my little red dot in and around sensors upwards of ten times on a person with no result.  It seems like if you have multiple towers you'd be able to shoot from tower to tower.  Apparently that's not the case.  In one instance I hit and not reported enough times to draw the attention of the person and they turned and popped me.  That got a big 'wtf' from me and I spent a couple of minutes in a corner hoping the joke of a game would just end.  I think they're fifteen minutes long, but it felt like at least forty.  I spent a lot of time waiting for it to end, actually, once I realized how screwed I had gotten with the equipment...

Luckily I played for free, but even that lends itself to a sense of disatisfaction.  If I didn't know the people working there and I had paid I would have walked out early for a refund and get the satisfaction of at least demanding my money back.  I would have genuinely felt scammed.  Unfortunately, one can't refund wasted time and instilled frustration.

Worse yet, and probably the part that's still bugging me now, is that I have no one to rant to about it. I  LJ is here, but it leaves a hole where someone would be nodding along or something.  Or maybe they'd disagree and tell me I'm off and I'd ponder it and calm down a little.

In any case, I've resolved to never touch a Laserquest pack again and I'd advise anyone randomly coming across this to take up paintball instead.  At least in that game you hit when you hit.  Weird concept, I guess.  :P
